It may be hard to believe, but the way you carry yourself can actually have a positive or negative impact on your mind, health and your chances of success. Keep reading to find out how...

Workers of today spend a lot of time sitting down, which already has a negative impact on your health, but your posture when sitting adds to that negative affect, as well as affecting mood and productivity. This can also apply to when you’re standing, as when you slouch and hunch over, this can have a negative impact on your back and physical well-being, and can also affect how you feel about yourself. Sitting or standing with your head up and your shoulders back is often called a ‘power pose’, which can help prevent back pain, improve your physical well-being, improve self-confidence, and can also make you better at work.

Back pain is actually one of the most common reasons for visiting a doctor, and can even lead to disability. Maintaining a good posture can easily prevent this and is also associated with a number of other health benefits such as, higher levels of energy, lower stress levels and increased confidence, reduced numbers of migraines, and higher levels of concentration. Good posture can also improve your communication skills due to the boost in confidence, as by standing tall, you are able to feel more in control and powerful.

Constant bad posture can not only cause back, neck and shoulder pain, but can also cause a great number of other issues. It can increase depression and stress, cause pain and weakness in the lower back, hips, knees, and ankles, cause digestion problems, and spinal misalignment, which can lead to even more health issues. When your spine is out of line it can cause dizziness, headaches, and puts your body under stress so even normal processes like blood flow and organ function are disrupted. When your body isn’t working as it should, the risk of serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension are then increased.

It is certainly clear that holding a good posture is extremely important short and long term, so make sure you are keeping your head held high and exerting your power pose whether you’re sitting or standing.
